"The physicians highest calling, his only calling, is to make sick people healthy - to heal as it is term"ed"

Dr Samuel Hahnemann

What is homoeopathy?

Homoeopathy is a natural form of medicine used by over 200 million people worldwide to treat both acute and chronic conditions. It is based on the principle of ‘like cures like’. In other words, a substance taken in small amounts will cure the same symptoms it causes if it were taken in large amounts.

The holistic nature of homoeopathy means each person is treated as a unique individual, and their body, mind, spirit and emotions are all considered in the management and prevention of disease. Taking all these factors into account, a homoeopath will select the most appropriate medicine based on the individual’s specific symptoms and personal level of health to stimulate their own healing ability.

Homoeopathic medicines are safe to use as they rarely cause side effects. This means that when used appropriately under the guidance of a qualified homoeopath, they can be taken by people of all ages, including babies, children and pregnant or breastfeeding women.

What to expect?

Everyone is unique, and no one person expresses their dis-ease in the same way. As well as asking about your symptoms, a homoeopath will be interested in you as an individual and the unique way in which your symptoms affect you. History taking, examination and investigation are all important to establishing the correct prescription.

Questions about your lifestyle, eating habits and preferences, temperament, personality, sleep patterns and medical history help to form a complete picture of you. This picture helps us to match the symptoms you are presenting with to specific remedies which can help you.

As a guide, your first appointment could take anything up to 1 hour, with follow-up appointments typically lasting 30 minutes.

To get the most out of a consultation, it is helpful to make some notes beforehand and to think through all the issues that are affecting your health.

At the end of the consultation, your homoeopath will give you a prescription and advise you on how often to take the homoeopathic medicine. Homoeopathy can be given in sucrose or lactose pills or liquid; if you have a preference, please let your practitioner know beforehand.

Homeopathic Potency and Succussion

"Less is more"

There is a common misconception that Homeopathic remedies are Herbal medicines. Homoeopathic remedies are derived from the plant, chemical, animal and mineral kingdoms. They can even be made from sound frequencies.

Homoeopathic medication is 'succussed' and 'diluted' to which after reaching a certain potency the original substance is no longer present. After this stage, they become an 'energetic medicine' something that science is just beginning to research.

Through the process of dilution and succussion, this imparts a pattern to the molecule which represents the original material. The more the substance is potantised, the more coherent and intensified the pattern becomes. Examples of this can be seen in the work of Dr Masaru Emoto in his experiment exploring the molecular structure of water.

We can understand from the chemical/material standpoint the more you dilute a substance, the weaker it becomes. This is where the paradox begins when we observe homoeopathic medicines to work in the opposite way. The more we dilute and success the original substance, the stronger action the remedy will have on the individual taking it.

It has been observed that the lower the potency given the more physical action it will have. The higher potencies will act more on the mental/emotional spheres of consciousness as well as the physical and they will last for a longer period of time.

Lower potencies have been shown to burn out quickly, which enables you to take them more frequently. Higher potencies such as a 200c could be taken more frequently in an acute (cough, cold, injury) because we are using up the remedy quickly. Taking a 200c remedy without an acute illness will be taken less frequently because the energy of the remedy can last longer.

Examples of Potency

1 in 10 dilution (X potency - ie. 6x, 12x)

1 in 100 dilution (C potency - ie. 30c, 200c)

1 in 1000 dilution (1M)

1 in 10.000 dilution (10M potency)

The highest potancies are 50M and CM diluted and succussed 50,000 and 100,000 times over.

LM Potancy: 50 Millesimal potancies (1:50,000)
